fall 2008, fashion outlook

Highlights: Jil Sander has the most boring collection, Michael Kors is definitely the “most Batman” and Dior is very dark. It may be a tendency, but not everywhere. Impressed. Selected with care, as usual. Enjoy!

* I couldn’t believe it, but I hope it is a sign of maturity – somehow detached from my functionalist approach, the absolute winner is Jean Paul Gaultier:

Reuters gives 51% for Tadic, he claimed his victory, but no data available. Exit polls come, data like this on the home screen (comes directly from Belgrade)

Antena 3: 22:38.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE…WHERE IS THE REST?! (2 candidates, total equals 100%) STINKY!!!

UPDATE 2: Live details from the Nicolic party, they are very sad, so maybe the polls were right.

UPDATE: Reuters text changed.

1st version:BELGRADE (Reuters) – Pro-Western liberal Boris Tadic had a narrow lead in Serbia’s presidential election on Sunday, with a projected 51 percent of the vote versus 49 percent for nationalist challenger Tomislav Nikolic, exit polls showed.

2nd version: BELGRADE (Reuters) – Serbia’s pro-Western president Boris Tadic won re-election on Sunday, narrowly defeating nationalist challenger Tomislav Nikolic, the independent polling organization CESID said.

Atonement (2007)

without comments

951_atonement-pic.jpg

Suppose somebody gives home grown pot to a Jamaican. Now, imagine that you are the Jamaican guy (with consumer experience), what would you say? You would say: This is some weak ass shit!

In order to give some arguments, not just a judgment, here you go. This movie has a soap opera plot with that very “intellectual” twist that the creation, as effort itself, defines the reality and the perception of a given act. Moreover, it could have a normative value as well. This approach can be digested by me, if there is a good storyline and screenplay*. Nothing like that happens here. Using the typewriter and its sound as a guiding principle is dead for me, since the Naked Lunch. That movie defined for me the role and concept of a typewriter in any narrative process, so in this case remains a factor of anger, nothing more.

8.0 on IMDB suggests me that I will offend some people, but it is not just overrated, it a Jamaican answer.

* 2 years ago I had the novel, started it, read 60 pages fell asleep and the next day I did not even remember that I have to read something.

quick reminder

1. Tadic vs. Nicolic. Today, live and fresh! Huge stake that will be concluded by a huge mistake. My guess! Exit polls later today.

UPDATE: 68 % turnout. And via Reuters: BELGRADE (Reuters) – Pro-Western liberal Boris Tadic had a narrow lead in Serbia’s presidential election on Sunday, with a projected 51 percent of the vote versus 49 percent for nationalist challenger Tomislav Nikolic, exit polls showed.

2. Two days and “Super Tuesday”. I don’t know what will happen, but as mentioned in one of my opinion papers, everything is about the following decision: 35 years old white male democrat sees a woman (or THE woman) or an afro-amercian more suitable for representation (you should observe that all the campaign sites are “.com”, hmmm, I wonder why). I refer here to the Edwards voters!

3. And interesting writing tool, found on my desk. Have fun:

1. Mr. Brooks 2007

 poster1.jpg

I hate Kevin Costner, he is my Harrison Ford. He is the Postman, the Bodyguard, the Waterworld, and screw the wolves. But his character was very good. Not that complex, but with some special twists. This is why I could relate to this character. Not properly, because I am not that evil or sick (yet), but my facebook profile says that I am 100% Evil. So, my empathy level was somewhere around 3, which is extraordinary, because my daily level tends to zero. (disclaimer: maybe spoiler, you gourmands) I understand that this  situation is not even similar to Christian Bale as Mr Bateman (socially and psychologically), but that is the benchmark. Don’t misunderstand me, I recommend this movie! These crisis movies never end…Opened for discussion or just incapable storytelling, I never know.

2. 4 months, 3 weeks & 2 days (2007)

181_27-4months3weeks2days.jpg

It is not excellent, but I felt something. Not pity. I was angry, I hated some characters. And it grew. So, it was good. Wasn’t that shocking, it was that static-dramatic category that I can easily recommend. Liked the directing and some shots were brilliant. Although, I prefer Oldboy as Cannes winner, but this is a great effort. Definitely worth watching!

Three hours later, the fog makes this picture. Ten degrees colder, dark and foggy. Darthvader and the sword (Pana FZ8K)

And now, the human stupidity, not God’s stupidity…

And the registry. Pupils should contest every single step of this process. Sick! (Nokia 6120)

tool up, back on track – The wire, Season 5

with 5 comments

Yes, detectives! The healthy tingle is back. I’ve just watched the first episode from season five, and everything is very promising. Extended topic, from drugs to media and social problems, irony and continuity in the plot, and a very “city-like”, progressive intro sound. I used as ring tone the second and fourth score, but I will definitely use this one as well. So, TOOL UP!

I am Legend (2007)

with 2 comments

Disclaimer: It may be a spoiler for those who did not see the movie and want to do it. Although, I do not recommend it and the 7.3 average IMDB rating is way exaggerated.

legend29112006.jpg

It appears to me that the main characters must die in order to produce something new. Given the title, it is absolutely natural for this movie that Will Smith dies. How and why is another question, but reading the title, I think it is clear for everybody. The term “legend” itself is strongly correlated with death, but also with a social setting that enables the spreading of the legend. This element is completely missing from this movie, because the survivor community is a very restrained one. It is a legend for the viewers, not a legend itself.

Robert Neville hunts with a laptop and always does research. But he is a stupid scientist, because has no clue that the virus created by himself has problems with the cold. Moreover, he talks about total human degradation when it is obvious that they have feelings, relationships, attachment and, more importantly, they learn. No information about the immunity that is simply given for some people. This is why, the “there is no God” argument is not sufficiently powerful. The isolation and need of interaction is something human, but it was a choice of the character, so: not strong enough again!

Visuals are OK, but not outstanding. The “present while remembering” is old and absolutely gratuitous, because the storyline is a very common one. The presence of a dog strengthens the emotional commitment, but from Rin Tin Tin we know that this is good in family movies.

So, a super-rational character acts like a bitch, the story is weak, so it brings nothing new. No recommendation from me.

30 Days of Night (2007)

without comments

30daysposter.jpg

Recently watched the very awaited movie. Josh Hartnett is to gouge the girls and girlfriends into the theaters, so he is not useless. More or less the storyline brings nothing new, several little details, but the dramatic, time and effort consuming drama-love plot seems to be a must for a movie like this. Furthermore, it has a significant role in the “planned” ending of the movie, but now I will stop, because I don’t want to be a spoiler.

It is a horror and for that scope is a very good one. The feeling sometimes is very cold and dark, which means it works. The special effects and enemy movements aren’t new or special, but they fit into this framework with no special problems. The colors used, but mainly the tiny and closed location facilitates good pictures. It is not Dogville, but some shots work well.

Nevertheless, it is not that simple and powerful as The Descent, my old-time favorite, but it works really well. The enemy has a strange Danish accepts that strengthens the bizaro feeling, but as a whole, has it’s role. So, get rid of the story, which is not that new and enjoy the dark and isolated family afternoon.

As Josh Hartnett says: “Not a bad idea though”.

let’s get this party started

without comments

2 minutes ago: Mr President started the proper campaign. 8 Ministers will go, dooooown. and dooown again, az Pablo Fransisco said. And the Metallica: Kill’em All!

I’ve finished correcting and grading: sad, but it is ours. Plagiarism still a problem, and “we did not know about it” argument still rules the world. I slept more than 8 ours today and this could be considered as a record. The average grades are below 3 (and somewhere around 4 for the other year). Yeap, 10 is the maximum. Me not being mean. Just realistic.

Further blogchanges will appear, but just in february. Projects, research, exams and poker rule the world, ’till the upcoming weekend parties. Less politics, more other stuff. It is hard to find a good cap, or something like this. Branded ones even harder.

Nonetheless, this semester was OK, sometimes it was a real pleasure to work with students and sometimes they worked well. This end period downstream is absolutely normal, I guess…No hope for vendetta and I have to sneeze much more silently.

Hope that my white Zara shirt arrives today, because the black tie is loosing its patience.
